I am a selfish, inconsiderate being because the one day I happen to have something important on, is the one day nobody else but me is available to accompany the mother to her medical checkup, is the one day nobody else but me is available to help the grandmother take care of the little one.
The one day I have something important on makes me a selfish, inconsiderate, self-centred, heartless individual because it happens to be the day I choose to prioritise something important to ME.
And that makes me a selfish bastard.
Totally understand that. Yep. I really do.

Trying to build my online portfolio makes my head feel like it's bursting at the seams.
But anyway, I've decided to take it off my mind for a bit.

I got this song stuck in my head thanks to glee adverts and decided to ahem "muat-turun" it. After the 2nd repeat or so, this verse struck out to me as odd.
I've chewed on it and spit it out several times but, I don't know. It still makes no sense to me. Okay, I sort of understand the "no countries" part, but no religion?
I think religion is what keeps immorality at bay. Imagine if there were no belief systems in this world, imagine if there was no one who believed in God.
Would humans then be elevated to the status of gods? Would science be worshipped as a new religion?
Hmm.
I feel ashamed when people use religion as an excuse to indulge in their own bloodlust but at the same time, I cannot muster enough courage to condemn that whatever they are doing is amoral.
A lecturer raised a valid point about suicide bombers. I am not condoning whatever they are doing, nor am I condemning them, I am merely stating observations based on what I have read and been told.
Imagine this.
You are watching the news, and you see this man in a warzone in Afg or Irk or wherever it is the You Ass of A is waging war at.
He walks calmly towards a troop of Am soldiers, draws his AK47 and guns the whole lot of them down. At the same time, of course, he gets gunned down by the whole lot of them.
You might scream in your head about how heartless the man is. Or how he is a crazy Islamist (now that's rich -.- ) or how he's just plain whacked to be carrying out a suicide mission.
Whatever your reactions may be, just remember that you're reacting in the comfort of your own home, in your own peaceful home country, where you know your family is safely alive and breathing around you.
Whereas the whacked-out suicidal guy ?
Hmm. Probably, not in so much comfort.
He has probably witnessed the rape and plunder of his own home town. He's probably seen his favourite mama shop being torched by arsonists, he's probably seen his neighbours being tortured at gunpoint.
And yes, he's probably seen his house blown to dust bits with his family "safely tucked inside".
I don't know about you. But seeing your family members blowing in the wind can leave a pretty traumatic scar on a guy.
Of course, that doesn't make him right.
But I think, it sure as hell does not make him wrong either.

I went home one day to find this flower blooming in my grandmother's garden of 4 clay pots. It looks like a rose, it has thorns in its stem, but is not a rose.
I asked my grandmother what plant it is, and she told me it's a cancer plant.
Apparently the leaves, when brewed and drunk, can cure cancer.
Hmm. Who ever knew such a powerful plant grew on my lift landing?

I told my mother just now about how I feel listless and directionless for this one final project and she told me to ask my many boyfriends to help me with it.
Right.
That is so not the point, because I got a whole bunch of help from them already. So much so that if they help me any more, it'll be more like their project rather than mine.
Which is ironic in so many different ways.
I have an idea block.
Someone somewhere once told me that when designers run out of ideas, they revert back to the plain typography + expensive paper foolproof strategy .
So, Tas man, I think, I finally know what I'm gonna do today.

This poem I wrote 5 years ago actually sums up the concept for my portfolio.
It's ironic, I guess because I just declared the other day that I'm not a colourful person.
I feel sad that I've lost a large chunk of my dreamer self.
When I go through my humiliating archives, I saw how much I have changed and how I've lost the colour in myself.
I used to believe in the greater good. I used to believe that the world is wonderful and fair and equal.
And then certain life lessons helped to paint that rainbow coloured slate grey.
And I've lost faith altogether in the greater good.
Does that make me a horrible person?
Or just a jaded human?

I sometimes wish people were built with indicators.
Then they can signal their intention before turning abruptly and causing disruption in twenty lanes of human traffic.
It's especially annoying when you're rushing for the morning train.
And seriously, people should consider showering in the morning.
Rush hour trains are suffocating enough without an unpleasant odour permeating the air.
Grrr. I think I'm just angsty for no particular reason other than hormones.
I spoke to an irritant like he was my 9 year old student and it worked.
Goes to show that growing old physically does not mean you mature mentally.
Anyway.
One of the characteristics of living things is that they can reproduce.
I was explaining to the class how man is a living thing, therefore man reproduces.
A girl raised her had and insisted that my explanation was wrong.
"Miss ****! You're wrong! Man does not reproduce! "
I was quite annoyed. It was the infinitieth time I was repeating the lesson and she still doesn't get it???
So I said, "How were you born, then?! Man, like, other mammals, gives birth to young alive!"
"But it wasn't who gave birth to me! It was a woman!"

Narcissism can start young. He loves staring at himself in the mirror and sometimes, it's the only way to stop his annoying crying.
He seldom cries unless it's for attention and showing him his own face always makes him stop and stare for a while, and then, he'll forget to continue bawling.
Also, there's this evil side of him.
He loves his rattle. His rattle is made of metal.
He loves it because when he whacks your face with it you can't help screaming "OW!"
And that just causes him to explode into peals of evil laughter.
When babies fall asleep, they usually do cute things like cuddle a pillow, or a soft toy, or wrap their chubby little fingers around your thumb.
This baby, he falls asleep trying to claw your eyes out.
You always know when he's ready to sleep because he'll start trying to grab your eyeballs.
Bob the turtle is traumatized by the little evil. We take Bob out of his tank cos we think we might use Bob to pour some fear into the boy.
And yes, our plan backfired.
He tried his hardest to pull Bob's legs out, pinched the poor turtle's tail, banged on his shell, dragged him around like a toy car and when all else failed, used his legs to stomp on the shell.
I think we might get sued by s p c a if anybody finds out.
And the best thing is... ?
He can't even walk yet!
I shudder to think of the evils he will accomplish when he learns to walk.
