Happy Birthday to Me...
Birthdays have had a tendency of being extremely boring and insignificant to me so I did not have any great expectations of my twenty-first.
Okay, so I was wrong, I admit that now when I'm having a headache of a lifetime thanks to the extreme sugar rush of my birthday cake.
Anyway. I'll show things in sequence AND! I have pictures, for once!
Sunday night found me and family having dinner at Earle's Swensens at T3. Oyot mentioned some days ago about how a traditional birthday meal at swensens is a must, and I thought that well.. perhaps, we'll go back to tradition.
Besides... Have I ever mentioned.. I shared my birthday with my dad?
He was the one who always insisted we go to Swensen's to celebrate birthdays.
But of course, fifteen years ago, Swensen's is not exactly what it is now and back then, T3 didn't exist.
On my birthday, that is, 4th January, I got rudely awakened by the baby momma.
"Hey!" she said, giving my shin a little kick, "I've gotta get to work."
I opened my eyes reluctantly and kicked off my blankets, thinking, 'daaaammnn, it's a cold cold morning!'
With my eyes half-closed, I pat my gramma's vacant bed beside me and muttered, "Here", after which I proceeded to curl up into a fetal position on the bed.
I eventually woke up, of course, thanks to the rolling tumbling thing who kept attempting suicide dives from the bed. (and the background noise of my gramma shrieking at me to catch him)
Well anyway, long story short, it didn't start off well. On top of that, I had a cold and the heater decided to break down that morning! So I was sneezing ten thousand times even before I had breakfast!
Throughout the whole morning, I kept checking my phone, thinking that these freaks have forgotten to tell me details about the day. Or worse! That they had forgotten about me! Like, I had no idea what time and where I was meeting them and calling them made no difference because they kept giving me vague answers. And and yeaaaaaahhh. I should have smelled the fish!
At about "three-ish" (as lina had instructed me to do) I was getting ready putting my best face forward. You know you're getting old when you keep relying on modern cosmetics to give you what nature wouldn't but anyway.
I thought I looked young.
And here's my twenty-one year old face.
I think I look 18 at the most! Haha!
I was trying to figure out what to wear when my gramma shrieked at me to go open the door.
I guess anyone would have suspected it but I found the 4 of them on my doorstep singing Happy Birthday and was shocked speechless.
I contemplated closing the door on them but I wouldn't do anything so mean!
They (Lina and Bec) baked me this!
Yeah... I don't really wanna know what they're thinking with the Purple polka dot bikini but I managed to stop them from sticking the third candle at a 'sensitive' area.
But the cake is a guaranteed trip to a chocolate-lover's heaven. It shoots you straight up to the seventh level with its ultra-super-extremely-teeth-rottingly sweet flavour. It's like... waging war on your molars.
But soooo soooo good in small doses.
We took an MPV cab to Robertson Quay for dinner at Cappadoccia.
It's a quaint little cosy place near SRT where they seemed to serve meals per table so we all get our dishes at the same time, which is great.
And it felt like a little piece of Turkey, in the shop.
I loved the turkish rugs and the table settings for the place and we were the only customers for a long time before people started drifting in after sunset.
We took a long beautiful walk by the river and saw many things which Farah claimed was so unlike Singapore and I couldn't help but agree.
Maybe, this was the next best thing to jumping overseas.
We met a group of buskers along the underpass and they got them (the buskers) to sing me another birthday song and I think I've never been sung to more times than today's record breaking 4.. or was it 5?
We ended our day/night cooling our heels at Raffles Place Macs.
I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say I've had the time of my life tonight and they've outdone themselves and surpassed any tiny expectations I had on turning 21 and I guess I owe them a huge elephantine thank you for convincing me not to sleep my 21st birthday away.
Thank you Farah, Farhana, Lina and Rebecca for all you've done! (:
And here's to 8 years of friendship!
