Today something very eventful happened to me.I nearly got knocked down by a car, while I was crossing the road.....
at the black and white stripes, otherwise known as ....
that's right. The Zebra Crossing.
Of course, I turned back to glare at the driver. And he was staring straight through me and that was how I realised that the SBS bus had saved my life.
Because, had there not been a bus blocking the zebra crossing junction, I would have experienced firsthand, the aerodynamics of "flying without wings".
The idiot driver had accelerated towards the crossing, and only stopped when the bus blocked his way out. Trust me, I know for sure that he accelerated because I saw my life flash before my eyes as the idiot car surged forward, stopping where my right leg would have been had my flight instincts not kick in. Seriously, if I hadn't jumped out of the way, I'd probably have had a nice sweet reunion with the orthopedic surgeon at CGH.
Well anyway, it was nice to know that the idiot driver had lived up to his name as a Singaporean driver. Of course, it's a crass generalisation on my part; there are many good and safe drivers out there. But as the saying goes..... it only takes one drop of ink to spoil a pot of milk. Hah Hah! Geddit geddit?
Okay, idiots and horrible translations aside, did I ever mention that I have night blindness? Hahah! Not the kind you can avoid with citrus fruits during pregnancy like a cousin insists, but the kind that's probably caused by severe astigmatism and bright dazzling headlights.
I abhor night driving, not just because I totally suck at it, (because I don't!) but because my already challenged sense of directions is exponentially worse at night. En route to Pasir Ris, I'd get detoured off to ECP, or the like. While it's not so bad nowadays, I can't help but wonder if night vision goggles may prove to be a quick fix out of this predicament.. or maybe I can continue praying that Lasik will one day be eligible for government subsidy. Haha!
and I realise that i haven't concluded properly but I can feel Philippe Starck beckoning me into his eccentric world of supermonkeys.
Let me end with an inspiring albeit totally irrelevant quote from the man himself,
"Nobody is obliged to be a genius but everyone is obliged to participate."
