As Ain had tagged, maybe I need an outlet for all my black thoughts. If only I could run an air purifier through my whole head, then things wouldn't get this messy. Or maybe, if I did, things would be waaayyyyy worse. For one, I wouldn't have been left alive to tell the tale! Hah!

At the risk of sounding idealist, or fundamentalist, or take your pick, whatever you wish to label me as, I shall still broach this subject.

While I know I don't exactly have exemplary conduct, I don't have a problem with who I am as a person either. I don't know why I feel bad that I'm not bad, or can't bring myself to be. I have my wild streaks but seriously, I can't bring myself to waste a whole life on it.

I cannot understand people who have a love/hate relationship with their identity. Why pretend to be something you're not and live your whole life in fear of being caught? You spend years building up the image of a GMG when in real fact, you're not. C'mon, who exactly is lying to whom now?

I wouldn't give two hoots if a person lied to me because I have always thought it's a matter of personal opinion, and it can always be changed in a split second. But why bother lying to yourself and hurting so many others in the process? You think you're brave?

Try being honest and live the lie you created for yourself.

No matter how brave a person may be, no matter how skilled he is at lying, he still runs away from shadows, duly afraid of the truth. Why bother to live if your life is a lie? Why bother even lying when you can't even tell what is truth?

However you wish to kill yourself, I just don't agree with spending $300 a month of money that could have been put to better use, just to kill yourself.

But hell, despite the obvious relations, to a large extent, I still am an outsider.
If being an insider means going against my own principles, thankyouverymuch, I shall pass.

Call me stupid, but I'm not the one wasting my money to kill myself.

Cis! Don't call me that! My name is Aida!

Seriously, I'm quite sick of people telling me I look like the Eldest but what happened yesterday reaaaally takes the cake.

I was just walking into Mendaki, nearly running to the door, where I know, would give me some airconditioned respite from the merciless heat; and then this group of workers leaving for lunch started waving at me.

I just stared at them. "I don't know you!", my brain shouted out.
But i guess they weren't necessarily mind readers, so they didn't hear it.
And then, somewhere amongst them, a whisper exchanged.
The only thing I caught was, "That's her sister!!!"

The concentration that it took for me not to burst out laughing, my goodness, even the Yogis would have been envious!

Fast forward to an hour later.

I was having lunch at LJS, eating the Peg Leg Feast, which by the way, is ten times tinier than the picture,
and then a makcik came up to me and asked, "Kenal tak? " (Do you recognize me?)

I was blanked.
Is she a relative? A Cik .... Jah, was it? Or was it Cik Nah?

And then she explained, "You taught my son, last year, remember?"
And then I saw the son and realisation dawned on me.

It was the kid the eldest taught for a bit last year.

I taught the kid for about 2 months too, when she was incapacitated, hahah, but the makcik kept calling me "Kak Aida"... and thus I knew.. it was another case of mistaken identity!

And for that day, I felt famous.
Famous as my sister. -.-

I am feeling semi-depressed. There was a time when my blog entries held some form of substance. Now it's just plain 'ol garbage dressed up with a liberal sprinkle of colourful language. Or sometimes, I'm just plainly trying to tell something without telling it.

I read through some of my old 2007 posts and I was genuinely surprised at them. It just goes to show, maybe, that in the past 5 months, my English has more than deteriorated.

Speaking of which, I believe I am quite right on this and I can't fathom why I let tiny 9 year olds get inside my head.

Seriously, how do you pronouce the word "Koala" as in Koala Bear?

I went to an Australian Zoo once and I heard it being called ko ah la . I watched Steve Irwin's shows and he called them ko ah la. And here I am, in Singapore, where * claims that 80% of Singaporeans pronounce it as Cola Bear. If that statistic were true, I'd be seriously ashamed to call myself Singaporean.

Imagine this situation reversed. You remember the joke about the Hong Kong man selling Flied Lice ? He can argue that back where he came from, everyone pronounced it that way. But remember how you cracked up laughing your sides off at his inaccurate pronounciation?

So lesson learnt, just because the majority says it's right, doesn't necessarily mean it is.

Anyway, moving on to the word my friends and I have always been debating about..
To clear doubts, here it is; suave .

I wished I didn't care so much about the abuse that the English Language has to put up with in Singapore, but the fact remains that I do care. I guess, deep down inside I still am that cold-blooded journalist, out to correct everybody's grammar. Maybe if I didn't care so much I wouldn't have earned the honour of being labeled "bourgeois". Which by the way, is pronounced [booor- zhwah]

Short of a screaming pontianak, there's nothing that makes my hair stand more than mis-pronounced English.

Ohh, one more word I would have to mention under the top 3 list of mispronounced words.

For those who prefer to pepper their spoken vocabulary with spicy words, here's a favourite;

Whore unfortunately, is not pronounced as war. But rather, the "H" is highlighted more. And thus, just like how one pronounces more, you pronounce it as [hore]. Only, be sure to use a coarser "H" so it sounds more vulgar, if you get what I mean.

Maybe I shouldn't be teaching people how to cuss accurately, then, I'd have a finer time laughing when they're trying to call me a wore.

Ain says we should make it more of an effort, so maybe I will, starting from today, try my very best to delete the nanyang slang from my spoken English.

Ban the Singlish! Fine the lah!

Please forgive me if I start sounding like a bigot but apparently, everyone else has been naming us thus. Let me ask this question;

What is the value of education to you?

To me, education is the most important thing on the face of the earth. And I can honestly say that I haven't exactly been blessed with brains, but I make do with what I have. Why can they not see that?

"You have to study hard, I know you can do better!"

Now tell, how on earth is the previous sentence a condescending one?? I sincerely thought it was encouragement but you know, people tend to see what they want to see, instead of what it really is. Their mentality is so backward that I cannot understand the logic behind it. While I'm not exactly liberal in my ideals sometimes, I do recognize the importance of education if one wants to "make it big" in this day and age.

You don't have to be rich to be smart but you have to be smart to get rich.

Am I not right? People think we've always had it easy. That we're bourgeois and middle upper and look down our huge noses at everything.

Right now, I'm just feeling so agitated at everything. I mean, seriously,

CAN'T YOU F*CKING CALL MY NAME??
What am I, your servant? I'm ashamed to even acknowledge you as my blood relative seeing how you treat people. Seriously, do you have to pull a sleeve to get my attention? When I'm 0.5m away from you? YOU FATHER NEVER TAUGHT YOU MANNERS EH?
