The day was great.

Malaysia was fun to say the least.
Only, the place they stayed at was full of bugs.
Imagine, the pool, in the morning, was filled with these UFOs.
Those specks are not flowers, those are bugs.
She will probably load the other pictures some other time. 80+ pictures is not little.
This is her favourite.
It just looks like one big happy family. Although the men of the family are missing. =) It hardly matters that some of these people she's only seen for the third time in her life. Malaysians are a hospitable bunch of people. They have a knack of making one feel welcomed.

She is going to Malaysia for the week-end.
For a cousin's wedding.
A cousin she doesn't even know.
Somehow, she is not happy with the arrangement.
Seriously, she is reconsidering whether she should go or not.
But, regardless of whether she knows the person well or not,
fact remains that she's a cousin.
She believes that certain people who have no relations should be the ones to give way.
Okay, that is so mean of her.
But that's just her.
She would rather forgo the trip then ending up unhappy throughout the whole time.
Plus, considering the math assignments that she has not even started.
BUT, she would get damn bloody annoyed when they come back.
They'll be talking about the trip that she did not go on.
And annoying the hell out of her with comments like,
"you should have gone, it was so fun" -.-
It cannot be PMS.
She had a great time until she came home.
She shall re-live the evening to raise her spirits.
VJ Band concert was great.

They were so freaking hungry they thought could eat a bus. (figuratively, of course)
When they left macs, it was already 11.15pm.
and well, the girl was scared of going home alone so late.
She gets these paranoid images in her mind's eye about bad people lurking around the place, hiding behind every tree, following her every step.
So she made mas walked her home! =D
Of course, what mas would have wanted her to say,

Life can be so boring at times.
Her life is so dull.
What is so colourful about school, anyway?
What is worth blogging about?
She finds it too much of a chore to blog about the mundane everyday things.
She is trying to be a non-conformist.
and it really is not easy.
What are rules?
Who decides the rules of society?
You? Me? Her? Them?
What defines right and wrong?
Just because we 'think' it's right, does it necessarily mean it's right?
then comes the question of Morally Right.
Just who is to decide what is morally right, and what is not?
Is it fair for us normal average human beings to decide?
What makes us so special that we have a right to correct others?
Therein lies the problem with the educationists.
Especially in Singapore.
In the rush for development, the education system has also been sped up.
She will always remember the times during primary school when she got humiliated in front of her class just for answering a question wrongly. That is, giving academically wrong answers.
Yet, teachers stil complain students nowadays rarely ask questions.
Do they ask themselves this question; Why ?
The rapid education system in singapore is fast-paced and thus have no time for the students' petty questions. Even if the questions could have instilled interest in the subject.
Her Biology teacher used to encourage the class to participate actively in class. However, in a class of forty students, only the louder ones will get their questions across. Even then, questions are screened such that only questions 'related to the syllabus' would be entertained. Many questions were answered with a simple, 'this is not within your syllabus, there is no need to know'.
Another issue faced is the lack of response from the students whenever the teachers pose a question. Imagine this, when you were younger, attending a primary school, a teacher asked, 'class, what is the product of 4 and 4?' You raised your hand up high, confident that you know the answer. and then you answered, '8!'. The teacher looks at you with a raised eyebrow, and shouts, ' PRODUCT! PRODUCT!' what did i tell you about product!? Have you been sleeping in class again? 'Ego bruised, you refuse to look up. you vow never again to get it wrong.
See the point there?

What is so horrible about mistakes that Singaporeans shun them like the plague?
Do you not agree that learning from mistakes makes one a better person?
What is wrong with the education system?
She, herself, is a perfectionist.
Afraid of making mistakes.
Phobia of falling.
The bruises just hurts too much.
Why make mistakes when the system shuns people who do?
Of course, there is always a safety net underneath. But just how many people actually 'aim' to fall? Undoubtedly, one would rather make it across the bridge then fall nto the safety net.
The higher the education level, the narrow the bridge, the faster you have to cross it and the further away is the safety net. Even if you fall, it will hurt bad.
The main problem that the Singapore government is trying to address is this: the phobia of failing in students.
And she believes...
There is yet a long long long way to go before Singapore can even see in the same horizon the title of world class education for its system. As for now, it is, indeed, beyond reach.

Human beings sometimes forget that other people have feelings too.
They become so absorbed in their own narrow world
that they become blind to others' feelings.
They become self-centered.
What is unity?
How can a community achieve unity if no one cooperates?
there is a reason why the word society is otherwise known as community.
Communication + unity = community.
How do they plan to communicate if all they care about is themselves?
How do they communicate if they cannot cooperate with each other?
Unity and communication has to use a multi-prong apprach.
It will not work if there is a group not agreeing.
It will crumble to pieces.
and time will pass...
slowly...
Until the next brave soul dares to come up in front annd pick them up.
Risks have to be taken on the individual basis if one strongly believes in community.
So chide not those who stood up for their principles.
Do not ostracize them for trying to build a community.
Instead, reflect on yourself and ask yourself;
why did you not go?
Were you afraid?
or Do you just not care?
Giving useless comments. Are they worth anything?
If you do not believe in community,
then don't brag and boast and criticise.
All talk and no action is quite useless in this pragmatic country.

Girl Caught Using Vulgarities On Her Blog: Injustice or Discipline?

A girl, aged 17, from Sunflower Junior College was given a stern warning by the principal for using vulgar words in her blog post dated 17 May 2006. According to the principal, Mr X, it was unbecoming of students from Sunflower JC, or rather, Sunflowerians to exhibit such behaviour in 'public'.
Apparently, on that day, Kiwi (not her real name) was feeling upset as she had lost 20 marks in her French comprehension test. She had had no time to complete the summary section that was worth 20 marks.
"I was angry with myself for being so slow. I could have completed it if only I had more time," she said.
When asked about the stern warning she had been given, she replied non-chalantly, "I don't really care. I have no idea what Mr X's problem is. I cursed myself in my own blog and got scolded. Where is the democracy in this? Do I not have a right to exercise freedom of speech?"
Mr X is a ery experienced principal, having led Bougainvillea JC and Carnation JC well before Sunflower JC. As such, he knows what is needed by the school and what to expect from the students.
"Sunflowerians know that a certain code of condut is expeted of them at all times, be it in school, outside or even online," commented Mr X.
According to the students of Sunflower JC, the principal emphasises a lot on good behaviour and punctuality. He believes that the college does not make the students, it is the students who make up the college and that Sunflower JC belong to Sunflowerians.
On the case of Kiwi using unpleasant words on her blog, he said, "I believe she deserves a second chance to prove herself. It is not very fair to expel her just based on one incident. This warning will be on her permanent record, however."
Mr X believes that it is a just punishment and that Kiwi should be glad that she had not gotten more severe punishment whereas Kiwi remains convinced that Mr X is making her practise self-censorship and not being democratic at all.
